How accurate are our dates?
A wrong spring break date can mean a flight booked for the wrong week, so we publish our checking, not just the dates. These numbers come from the same data that builds the site, as of September 26, 2026.

What every calendar goes through
- The district’s own document. We use the calendar published by the district itself, usually the board-approved PDF, never another calendar site. 278 of 333 calendars (83%) carry a school board approval we could confirm; the others show the district’s current published version.
- A first reading of every date, including color-coded grids and footnotes: first and last day, every break, holidays, teacher workdays, early release, weather make-up days and days off for some grades only.
- An independent second reading. A second reviewer who did not see the first reading re-opens the source, re-reads every date, recounts the school days and looks for newer versions. A calendar is published only after this second reading.
- Automatic checks on every build. Federal holidays must fall on their real dates, winter break must include December 25, Thanksgiving break must include Thanksgiving Day, and where the district states its number of student days (197 calendars), our count from the listed dates must match it, or the reviewer must find the reason in the district’s own documents (for example staff days the district counts).
- Honest gaps. When the documents disagree or a date cannot be confirmed, the page says “Unconfirmed, check district site” next to it instead of guessing. 27 calendars currently carry such a flag.
- Weekly source checks. Every source document is fetched again each week; when a district changes its file, the dates are read again and the page shows the new verification date.
What the second reading caught
Errors in our own first reading, found by the independent second reading and fixed before anyone saw them:

Dates that are easy to get wrong
Old versions of a calendar stay online long after a district revises it. These are the cases we see most:
- Hillsborough County (FL): The Strawberry Festival day moved from Mar 1 to Mar 8, 2027 (revision of Mar 24, 2026); the older approved PDF is still online.
- Palm Beach County (FL): Feb 15, 2027 (Presidents’ Day) is now a teacher workday with no school; the original calendar had that workday on Feb 24.
- Houston ISD (TX): The May 14, 2026 board revision changed Nov 6, Mar 26 and Mar 29; copies of the February version are still around.
- Montgomery County (MD): The last day is June 11, 2027 after the April 30, 2026 amendment; a leftover footnote still says June 16.
- Atlanta, Cobb, Clayton, Fulton, Henry and Paulding (GA): These districts call a week in February “Winter Break”. The December break has another name (December Break, Winter Holidays, Semester Break).
