Note: The Board of Education approved the 2026-27 and 2027-28 calendars on Feb. 23, 2026 (minutes, Superintendent's Recommendation 3). This is the district's updated calendar (marked Update: 9/11/2026, posted Sept. 18), which adds the 5 furlough days in the budget reductions the Board approved on June 22, 2026 (minutes; the dates were set by the district) as days when all CPS buildings and offices are closed: Aug. 12, Sept. 21, Nov. 2, March 1 and May 27. No separate board vote on the updated calendar appears in the minutes through Sept. 14, 2026. For students this moves the last day of school from Wednesday, May 26 (approved version, 171 days) to Tuesday, May 25 (170 student days, stated); Sept. 21, Nov. 2 and March 1 were already no-school days for students (teacher workday and PD days in the approved version). Preschool starts Monday, Aug. 24. The Thanksgiving week (Nov. 23-27) is shown as Holiday/Break days; Nov. 25 and Feb. 8 are Teacher Conference Exchange Days with no school. Jan. 4 is a district professional development day with no students. The district's online calendar shows the same dates, except that it leaves out the Nov. 23 break day. Memorial Day (May 31) and Juneteenth (June 18) fall after the last day of school.
