Note: Student & Parent Calendar linked on the district Calendar page (document version 2026-04-010 B-09); it does not say whether the School Board approved it and is subject to change to accommodate state testing changes. Staggered start: Aug. 7 is the first day for grades 1-8 (and a Smart Start Day for grade 6 at middle schools and grades 9 and 12 at high schools); Aug. 10 is a Smart Start Day for grades 7-8 and 10-11; Aug. 11 is the first day for all middle and high school students; PK and kindergarten start Aug. 13 or 14. Professional development/records days (Nov. 2, Jan. 6, Mar. 8) are student holidays; students return from Winter Break on Jan. 7. Mardi Gras Break is Feb. 5-12. Mar. 24 is a Make-Up Day (holiday unless needed). The calendar marks 17 days as possible emergency/storm recovery days (Sept. 7, Oct. 9 and 12, Nov. 23-24, Dec. 23, Jan. 4-6, Feb. 5, 11 and 12, Mar. 8, Mar. 24-25 and Mar. 29-30): a portion of them will be used as make-up days after emergency or inclement-weather closures. Nov. 2 (Professional Development Day, student holiday) is also starred in the date list and printed bold in the grid, but in black rather than the blue used for the 17 marked days, so it may also be a possible recovery day. May 26 is a half day and the last day for all students; non-exempt seniors finish May 7. Dec. 21-22 and May 25-26 are half days at 9-12 and 6-12 schools (exam days for grades 9-12). Virtual parent-teacher conferences Sept. 15-17 and Mar. 16-18. The district's online event calendar shows the same no-school days (it lists Aug. 7 as the first day for grades 1-5). Memorial Day (May 31) falls after the last day of school. The student calendar states no day count; the district's 2026-27 Employment Calendar (updated March 31, 2026, hosted on jpschools.org) lists 175 days for crossing guards and 175 bus driving days (Aug. 7 - May 26), matching the 175 student days computed from these dates.
